Burton Agnes Hall Spooky Woodland Trail

Who dares to visit Burton Agnes Hall’s Spooky Woodland Trail? If you are feeling brave this half term, why not venture over to Burton Agnes Hall and take part in their spooky woodland trail?

Every Halloween, fearless visitors are welcomed to an eerie hunt round the Hall’s atmospheric woodland, where clues are hidden amidst dramatic and creative spooky Halloween scenes, with a skeleton bride and groom and flying witches new for 2018 to name just a few! Once the entire puzzle has been solved, a treat awaits in the Gift Shop.

After the thrill of the spooky woodland trail, visitors can relax in the comfort of the courtyard and enjoy homemade meals, light bites and indulgent treats in the café, while the courtyard shops will be brimming with original gifts and seasonal and Yorkshire-made produce. Visitors can also choose from a range of home grown plants, propagated from the gardens.

During the weekend of the 27th and 28th October join Burton Agnes Hall for an Autumn Festival. The festival will offer delicious local produce, locally crafted beer, cider and gin to enjoy at the festival or take home for later and a huge selection of unique, hand crafted gifts and crafts. Fabulous live music will play throughout the weekend under the canopy of festival music tent including the ukulele Assembly Line, the Tuba Dudes and many more!

The spooky Halloween woodland trail runs from 27th October to 4th November and is designed for all the family to enjoy. There is no extra charge for the trail: admission is included in the normal Gardens price and is free for Burton Agnes Hall members.

Mess Around East Yorkshire – Spooktacular

Calling all witches, devils, cats and bats! Mess Around’s creepy, crawly, gruesome Spooktacular party has landed. Little ones can mix, pour, dig and explore, from ghostly mud to gory goo. Hear their cackles of delight as they get ghoulishly messy. So don’t be haunted by messy play, simply come along and mess around and leave the cleaning up to us!

3 events in our region for Halloween –

A fun and interactive trip out for the whole family, with its relaxing canal side location, café, exhibits and boat tours round Goole’s historic docklands and beyond. FREE admission to the museum, charges for boat trips (contact museum for details of trips and charges).

As well as the daily (during school holidays, weekends and bank holidays) trips around Goole’s Dock, longer trips are regularly available (about two per week over the summer) along the local canal system and the river Humber. Get in the spirit with lots of spooky fun and games for children and their families in and around the grounds and stables this Halloween half-term!

Running 27th October to 4th November, 11am-5pm: Spooky Bat Trail and Pumpkin Trail. Follow the Spooky Bat Trail around the grounds to discover the secret spooky spell or for those little monsters whose little legs don’t want to walk so far, explore the stables and grounds as you follow the Pumpkin Trail! All children completing one or both trails will receive a treat. Pick up your trail sheets at the start of your visit from the ticket desk. Adults – normal admission charges apply. This competition will be judged by the Hag of Holderness at 3pm daily near the Witches Lair (2nd Courtyard of the Stables) and the winner will receive a Burton Constable Hall & Grounds Goody Bag.

Hull Parks Free Play Sessions

The HeadStart Hull Play Rangers programme, delivered in partnership by Hessle Road Network, Maxlife Youth Project and St. Michael’s Youth Project, provides activities for children, young people and families during school holidays, including treasure trails, dance, music, sport, art. Activities are for all ages however, under 9’s need to be accompanied by an adult or older sibling/family member. The Hull Museums put on extra activities and events in the school holidays. For October half term:

  • Sweet Shop – 29th October, 1-3pm, Streetlife Museum. What would your dream sweet look like? Chocolate or toffee, nuts or nougat? Take inspiration from our old fashioned sweet shop to design your own box of sweets! Free, drop-in.
  • Creepy Crawlies – 30th October, 1-3pm, Hull and East Riding Museum. We might know them as Creepy Crawlies but insects and spiders aren’t all that scary – why not come meet a few from the collections at Hull Museums and let them inspire you to make your own really creepy crawly for Halloween. Free, drop-in
  • Mini Masterpieces: Mixed Media – 30th October, 10-11.30am, Ferens Art Gallery.Join us to create mixed media masterpieces inspired by the work of Ian McKeever. Build up layers of paper and paint to create your own artwork to take home and help us create some larger pieces together. Suitable for children aged 5 and under. £1.50 per child, pay on the day.   • Collage Creations – 31st October, 10am-12pm, Ferens Art Gallery. Drop-in to this collage workshop to create your own layered masterpiece. You’ll be free to use a mix of creative materials to explore light, shape and transparency, inspired by the abstract paintings of Ian McKeever.   • Creatures of the Deep – 1st November, 2-4pm, Hull and East Riding Museum. Discover the underwater wonderland of East Yorkshire at the time of the dinosaurs. At Hull and East Riding Museum our fossil collections show you some of the plants and creatures that lived on Earth millions of years ago. Take inspiration from these fossils, unleash your imagination and draw your own creatures of the deep creating your own underwater landscape. Free, drop-in.
  • Go Sketch! – 2nd November, 1-3pm, Hull Maritime Museum. It’s time to pick up a pencil and start sketching! Develop your drawing skills with some handy tips and tricks before heading out into the Museum to sketch some of our weird and wonderful objects. What amazing artwork will you make?Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City project. Free, drop-in.
  • Ways of Looking – Family Activity Packs  at Ferens Art Gallery available 29th October – 2nd November. Pick up a free activity pack to use throughout the Ian McKeever exhibition. Explore the artworks with fresh eyes using a variety of different visual aids. These family activity packs will encourage you to slow down, look closely and use your body to enjoy the abstract artwork of Ian McKeever. Suitable for families with young children. Shadow Theatre for families all ages (minimum age 4). This colourful tale from the Arabian Nights is set in the Middle East: a place of mystery, enchantment and strange, mythical creatures. Large scale colourful contemporary Shadow Puppet theatre tells of a poor street boy who falls hopelessly in love with a Royal Princess. What magic would he need just to see her again? Follow his wild and dangerous adventures as he gets caught up in excitement way beyond his control.

  • Slime Planet – 29th October, slimetacular sessions all day (£12.50)
  • Scrapstore Halloween Workshop – 29th and 31st October and 3rd November, 11am-1pm (free)
  • Handmade & Gorgeous Craft Fair – 3rd November 10am-2pm (free)

Most of the soft play centres in our area hold Halloween parties for little ones. You can find the full list of local soft play centres here. Events include:

The Lightless Pumpkin – Brand New Adventure! at ERT

East Riding Theatre, Lord Roberts Road, Beverley.

Brand New Adventure! After a sell-out run last year, She Productions returns this Halloween for a trick or treat of a show, following the loveable Lightless Pumpkin. Join the BanSHEs, the warbling un-scary fairies, at the theatre and let them lead you on a mini-promenade to Beverley Library. Seek out the Lightless Pumpkin and pals lurking amongst the literature, sing the spooktacular songs and participate in the Pumpkin Parade that takes you back to the café bar at ERT for the rest of the show.
Immerse yourself in this enchantingly interactive event, full of frightful delights for all the family. Clean up your cloaks and wave your wands for a performance that promises to be pumpkintastic!
