leto birth therapies hull east ridingAre you expecting a baby or have you recently given birth? As a former midwife with many years experience I recognize that this is a time of great change. My aim is to support you during this exciting time by offering a number of classes and other birth services. You’ll find more information about the classes I provide on my website including:

  • Hypnobirthing antenatal classes. No hocus pocus or mind control involved, just lots of unbiased, evidence based information, on going support and simple fear releasing techniques for a relaxed, calm and confident birth. Includes information on active birth, massage and essential oils. Free taster sessions and relaxation sessions available.
  • BA 3 Step Rewind Process is a simple, highly effective technique that neutralizes the difficult emotions linked to a traumatic birth. The process normally takes two sessions and I offer free consultations.
  • Pregnancy Massage & Aromatherapy. I specialize in pregnancy, birth and postnatal massage and aromatherapy. Book a massage for relaxation, to address specific problems or a combination of both. It’s up to you.
  • Doula Support. Providing practical and emotional support during and following your birth. Having continuous support can improve birth outcomes, leaving you feeling more comfortable and satisfied with the experience.

I work alongside Linda Brownlie at Milk & Therapy, 960 Anlaby Road, Hull. For more information please email me at christine@letobirththerapies.co.uk, visit my website here or follow me on facebook here.

Fatima Allam Birth Centre

The Fatima Allam Birth Centre is an Alongside Midwifery Led Unit situated on the Labour & Delivery Suite on the 2nd floor of the Hull Women & Children’s Hospital. The environment is more homely, and the focus is on birth without medical intervention. Our ethos puts women at the centre of their own care; supporting them in making decisions about how they want to give birth whilst ensuring safe and high quality care is maintained.

The Birth Centre is staffed 24 hours by midwives who provide midwifery led one-to-one care to women who have uncomplicated pregnancies. We have a team of midwifery assistants working on the Birth Centre who work in partnership with women and midwives to provide supportive, individualised care.

There are 3 en-suite birthing rooms that are designed for women to stay in throughout labour, birth and after birth until transfer home or to the postnatal ward should this be required. Two birth partners (adults) can be present throughout your whole stay here on the Fatima Allam Birth Centre.

The Fatima Allam Birth Centre has a friendly home-from-home atmosphere which can help women feel more relaxed. The spacious birthing rooms are beautifully presented with dimmed and coloured mood lighting, with facilities to allow women to play their own music via CD or Bluetooth.

Each room has a birthing pool providing women with the option of using water to assist their movement, encourage relaxation during labour and birth. The Fatima Allam Birth Centre is an ideal place for healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies, who do not want a home birth, and yet don’t want or need a hospital-like facility. Women may consider birthing here if they would like to use different coping methods such as birthing mats, balls and stools; these help women to adopt different positions to aid their comfort throughout labour and birth. We also support the personal use of complementary therapies and TENS machines which have been agreed in the plan of care made by the woman and her midwife.

If you’re a healthy first time mum and having a straightforward pregnancy, planning to give birth in a birth centre is particularly suitable for you because it’s as safe for your baby as planning to give birth in a labour ward, and you’re less likely to have medical interventions. Similarly if this is your second, third or fourth baby then birth in a birth centre is as safe as giving birth in a labour ward but with a reduced chance of medical interventions. If you’re unsure about being eligible for a birth centre birth please speak to your midwife or contact 01482 607860.

Hull & East Yorkshire Home Birth Group

The Hull and East Yorkshire Home Birth Support Group was set up in October 2011 by local women who have all given birth to their children at home, and want to be able to support other parents to have a positive home birth experience.

The group currently meets on the third Monday evening/day time of each month and is also attended by local midwives, doulas, hypnobirthing practitioners, breastfeeding peer supporters and antenatal teachers, many of whom have had home births themselves, and can offer additional information and support.  Everyone is welcome – partners, along with other birth partners, other children and friends.  The meetings are a great opportunity to meet other people who have had or are having a home birth, ask any questions, seek reassurance and support.

For more info check out their website here or follow them on facebook.  They also have a closed discussion group on Facebook – search for Hull and East Yorkshire Home Birth Discussion Group.

Opportunities to become a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter or Doula

The Goodwin Trust are always looking for local mums to become Breastfeeding Peer Supporters or Doula’s (offering support to local pregnant women in the final stages of pregnancy and labour).

Intakes are twice a year in April and October. If you are interested please get in touch with The Goodwin Trust by emailing gsharp@goodwintrust.org.

Positive Birth Movement Hull

The Positive Birth Movement Hull is a free to attend antenatal group. It is just one of a global network of hundreds of groups connected by social media aimed at spreading positivity about birth. We think a positive birth is one in which a woman has freedom of choice, access to accurate information, feels in control, powerful and respected. We are a woman-centred movement and we respect all women’s human rights to choose where and how they have their baby

This group is facilitated by Christine Duffill (hypnobirthing teacher, aromatherapist, 3 step rewind practitioner and doula) and Michelle Robson (breastfeeding peer supporter). We’ve been running this friendly and inclusive group for almost four years. Each month we have a different topic of discussion but are also happy to discuss anything you wish regarding labour, birth and the fourth trimester. We share information, experience and support so that those attending can make informed decisions about their birth. We have regulars who return and very generously share their positive experiences of birth. This offers huge benefits for those who attend and are planning for their births. Everyone is welcome to join us – mums, dads, grandparents, birth workers and anyone else with an interest and passion in birth.

We look forward to meeting you. We alternate our meetings between the 2nd Tuesday morning of one month, with the second Saturday afternoon of the following month. On Tuesday mornings we meet at Zoo Cafe and Saturday afternoons at Milk & Therapy.

Our meetings are posted on our Facebook page and we also have a closed discussion group on facebook. Alternatively you can contact Christine directly on christine@letobirththerapies.co.uk.
