Two excitable brothers are definitely, probably, maybe, just about to, almost, at some stage, going to do the chores their mum has asked them to get on with… With skilled stunts and uproarious, interactive gags, and with very little spoken dialogue, children and their big people will find themselves on the edge of their seats and giggling until the chores are done…if they get done…

humber street may half term roller disco Rollin’ into May Half Term with Roller Rink at Stage@thedock. Skate outdoors at Hull’s fabulous Amphitheatre in the heart of the Fruit Market! Open Monday 27th May to Sunday 2nd June.

Opening times are:

  • Monday to Thursday: 10am – 11am (5 yrs – 8 yrs), 11am – 5pm (open to all ages).
  • Friday and Saturday: 10am – 11am (5 yrs – 8 yrs), 11am – 7pm (open to all ages)
  • Sunday: 10am – 11am (5 yrs – 8 yrs), 11am – 5pm (open to all ages)

£5 per person for 1 hour skating, including skate hire.  Free for spectators. Cash Only. Adults can wear flat normal shoes to accompany their little ones on the rink if they don’t want to skate. Skates are available to hire from size 8 infant through to adult sizes.

The unique Stage @ The Dock venue overlooks the River Hull and Humber Estuary. You can find it behind the C4DI tech hub and Bert’s Pizza & Gelato restaurant in Queen Street in the Fruit Market.

Please note under 8’s must be accompanied on the rink by an adult. 13 yrs and under must be supervised by an adult (but they don’t have to skate). NB. This is an alcohol-free event.

You can dig for fossils at our dig site and take part in our dino craft sessions with the Stockeld Rangers too! Active Coast offers activities designed to Explore, Join In and Enjoy the iconic East Yorkshire coastline. Get out and about, take part in activities, and experience sport and cultural events on the stunning East Yorkshire coast, in Bridlington, Withernsea, Hornsea and Hull. East Riding Leisure School Holiday Activities

East Riding Leisure have fun filled activities and programmes available across nine sites in the East Riding for the Easter holiday break – Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Francis Scaife, Goole, Haltemprice, Hornsea, South Cave, South Holderness and Withernsea.

Leisure services manager Adrian Walters said : “If you are a bit stuck for ideas this May School Holiday, or not sure how you can entertain the kids, or maybe you need to plan activities for the kids while the grandparents take over – this programme of events can really help them to have fun and stay fit at the same time!”

Including: Crash Course Swimming, table tennis, fun floats and swims, soft play, inflatables, Jet Skis, Sea Scooters, and much more. All information for May Half Term 2019 is on their website here.

East Riding Libraries – May Half Term Activities

Elmer the Patchwork Elephant is 30 years old this year, and there will be a chance for all children up to 7 years old to join East Riding Libraries during the May 2019 half term holiday. David McKee’s children’s picture book, ‘Elmer’ was first published in 1989 and tells the story of a patchwork multi-coloured elephant and his adventures with friends, with an underlying theme of celebrating diversity. Penny Chaloner, librarian, said: “These free events in East Riding Libraries will be a chance for us all to celebrate our own true colours with the brand new book, ‘Elmer’s Birthday’ and fun activities.” Children are welcome to dress in bright colours to celebrate the theme.

Ferens Art Gallery – May Half Term Activities

Ferens are hosting a few child friendly events this May 2019 half term:

  • Microbes – 18th May – 1st September 2019 – The Gallery will be transformed by a glowing landscape of suspended inflatable microbe pods of differing shapes and sizes. This interactive exhibition is inspired by the beautiful microscopic imagery of bacteria and cells that live within us. Visitors can walk through the pods causing them to sway and bump into each other. Every few minutes the suspended forms will slowly deflate and then inflate as if breathing, creating a mesmerising spectacle. This exhibition promises to be a fascinating family friendly exhibition and not one to be missed! Free.
  • Jason Singh Sound Workshop – 30th May 2019, 1-3pm: Join artist Jason Singh for an introduction to sound art and have a go at creating your own soundscape inspired by Is This Planet Earth? Suitable for accompanied children and young people age 11+. Free event. Places are limited so booking essential.
  • Shell Handling Session – 31st May 2019, 10am-12pm: Handle and sketch some of our wonderful shells, or design your own otherworldly creature. Suitable for accompanied children aged 5+. Free Drop-in.

  • Hull Maritime Museum: Ship of the Future – 28th May, 1-3pm: Your challenge is to design a boat for the future. Take a look at some of the amazing models in the Maritime Museum to get some ideas: will your ship transport goods, carry people or catch fish? Once your design is complete, discover how to make an engine which runs on vinegar and baking soda in order to power your boat accross our test tanks! Free, drop-in.
  • Streetlife Museum: Cars of the Future – 29th May 2019, 1-3pm: Be inspired by the collection of vintage cars at Streetlife Museum to design your own vehicle of the future. Does it need big wheels or small? What powers the engine? Will you design your own time travelling DeLorean?! Free, drop-in.
  • Hull and East Riding Museum: Please Touch, Prehistory – 30th May 2019, 1-3pm: We’re inviting you to get hands on with some of our museum objects and discover what life was like for people living in the past. We’ll be exploring the development of the axe, from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age. You’ll get to handle real archaeological objects, ask our team questions and imagine what life was like in prehistoric times. Free, drop-in.

Normanby Hall are hosting a Bank Holiday Festival this May 2019 half term:

Activities happening at Spurn over the May 2019 half term:

  • The Spurn Safari on the Unimog will be running throughout half term on these dates – 25th, 26th, 27th, 31st May, and 1st & 2nd June.
  • Animal tracks and signs – 29th May, 10.30am-1.30pm: Ever wondered what footprints belong to which animal? Join in with this fun activity to find out about what wildlife has been around at Spurn. Meet at the Spurn Discovery Centre. Suitable for all ages. £6 per person.

Waters Edge – May Half Term Activities

Water’s Edge Nature Reserve have a couple of craft afternoons, and a family walk this May 2019 half term:

  • Textile Animal Cushion – 29th & 31st May, 11am-12:30pm: Create a unique handmade animal cushion, there are 3 cute characters to choose from. To create your own individual characters, decorative work is done using machine applique and hand embellishment. All materials are provided. This workshop runs over two days. £15 per child.   • Crafty Creations – Spring Lambs – 30th May, 11am-5pm: School Holiday Fun; join us for a creative nature, wildlife or environmentally themed activity session. £1 per child – Drop in session.
