York Festival of Ideas promises to spark children’s imaginations with lots of FREE and fun hands-on activities, all taking place in person again this year.
Explore the moon, watch as York scientists dissect a zombie, get your hands dirty (literally!) as you measure how well trees take up carbon, and join a chocolate tasting.
The Festival runs from 11 to 24 June 2022, but the family fun starts on 28 May, with events at Acomb Explore and Tang Hall Explore libraries, offering exciting hands-on creative and scientific activities. The pre-Festival programme also includes a family-friendly talk and demonstration on the fascinating topic of prehistoric cheese at the Malton Food Lovers Festival on 4 June.
Come along to the Discovery Zone (12 June) and the Festival Family Fun Afternoon (18 June) for some crafty, puzzling, scientific and historical fun – interact with robots, learn about food and climate change, immerse yourself in early prehistory, explore the brain in virtual reality, and much more!
Watch a mind reader face off against a machine (11 June) in a unique show mixing magic, mentalism and research, and visit the Care-full Pop-up Pet Shop (18 June) to chat with the pet-loving team about what care means in your family.
Also part of this year’s Festival programme is acclaimed children’s author Michael Morpurgo, who returns for a special evening of live music, poetry and storytelling in celebration of the natural world, taking place in the stunning atmosphere of York Minster.
