A Homecoming for Mr. Wainman.
Having taught at Tranby from 2003 to 2021, Mr. Wainman is both an alumnus and a parent of current pupils, making his return to Tranby feel like a homecoming.
Mr. Wainman’s Statement on His Appointment
“It is a privilege to have been appointed as the new Headteacher of Tranby and to succeed Alex Wilson. Under her guardianship, Tranby has become synonymous with inspiring academic excellence, nurturing potential, and celebrating pupils’ talents. “I look forward to energetically fostering this ethos, in partnership with Tranby’s talented pupils, excellent staff, and supportive families. Having previously taught at Tranby, this feels like a real homecoming for me. “I have never forgotten the deep sense of pride that Tranby pupils have in their school and they were only too keen to remind me of this during my recruitment visits.”
Mr. Wainman’s Leadership Background
Throughout his career at Tranby, Mr. Wainman held a range of leadership roles, including Head of Sixth Form, Assistant Head, Deputy Head, and Senior Deputy Head. For the past four years, he has been Headteacher at Silcoates School in Wakefield, where he oversaw significant progress in academic performance, student outcomes, and school growth.
Excitement for the Future at Tranby
Mr. Wainman has spoken of his excitement to work with Tranby students, supporting their educational journey: “I can’t wait to work with the talented musicians, confident linguists, budding artists, mathematicians and scientists and support the dedicated young sportsmen and sportswomen, to help each of them succeed without limits.”
Leadership Transition and Next Steps
Mr. Wainman will officially begin his role at Tranby in September 2025. In the meantime, the Head of Prep, Mrs. Cath Sweeting, will serve as Acting Head of the Senior School during the summer term, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
