The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts goes from strength to strength in Beverley and Hull!
The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts provide outstanding performing arts tuition for children aged 4-18 years at their Academies in Beverley and Hull. This popular national Academy came to our area last year, firstly with their Beverley Academy based at Beverley Grammar School, and then with their Hull Academy based at Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College in Willerby. They run fabulous classes in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and Film & Television, and I went along to review a session with my son when they first launched – it was fantastic! Click here to read that review. They also showcased at the Spring Mumbler Fun Day this year, which the children really enjoyed joining in with.
PQA have gone from strength to strength and have had a fabulous 2017! I caught up with Principal James recently, who filled me in on all the EXCITING activities students can look forward to in 2018! If only we were young again…
Staff at both Pauline Quirke Academies are very well qualified, and are all industry professionals in their own right. It means that the tuition provided at PQA is bang-up-to-date and relevant to young performers. Being part of a large national Performing Arts Academy enables students to perform in large scale shows at some very prestigious theatres and venues, locally, regionally and nationally. Students receive fantastic training and gain experience that in turn transfers into valuable life skills – not just within the arts. E.g., confidence, self-esteem, and communication skills. For those students who want experience in professional theatre, film and television, PQA also have their own exclusive agency, Quirky Kidz Create Management, where PQA students get the opportunity to take their training to the next level.
Students at PQA Beverley have had a busy year, their highlight being performing at Hull City Hall for Hull UK City of Culture events. They also participated in performing arts exams and have achieved Distinctions and Merits in their Trinity College London exams. In December PQA Beverley will be performing with X Factor finalists G4 in their concert at Beverley Minster.
Looking ahead to 2018 the students will be going to London and taking to the stage in the West End at Her Majesty’s Theatre in their brand new West End musical ‘Trouble’s A Brewin’!
PQA Beverley runs on a Saturday morning at Beverley Grammar School, HU17 8NF. Students aged 6-18 years attend the Main Academy running from 8.45am – 12 noon and students aged 4-5 years attend the Poppets Academy running from 8.45am – 10.30am.
Students at PQA Hull have also performed at Hull City Hall, as well as taking part in industry professional masterclasses with West End performers and professional theatre companies. In September the students performed with X Factor finalists G4 in their concert at Scunthorpe Baths Hall.
Looking ahead to 2018, students from Hull will be taking to the stage at The Grand Opera House in York alongside two other PQAs to perform a regional musical – ‘The Magical Mind of Cory Clagget’.
