The good news? A simple, safe flu vaccine can help keep your child protected, and it’s available for free through the NHS. Here’s why giving your child the flu vaccine is one of the best decisions you can make this season:
1. Protect their Health and Well-being
The flu can be more than just a fever and sore throat; it can lead to complications like pneumonia. The nasal spray vaccine is quick, painless, and effectively reduces the chance of catching and spreading the flu.
2. Guard the Family and Community
Children are more likely to catch and spread flu due to their close contacts at school and play. By vaccinating your child, you’re not just protecting them—you’re reducing the spread of flu to grandparents, family members, and classmates who might be more vulnerable.
3. Less Time Off School and Work
Flu can mean days of missed school for children and time off work for parents. The flu vaccine helps ensure a smoother winter season with fewer absences and disruptions for the whole family.
4. Peace of Mind
With the flu vaccine, you can feel confident knowing you’ve taken a simple, effective step to protect your child’s health.
If you have a child who was ages 2 to 3 on 31 August, contact your GP practice to book an appointment for the nasal spray vaccine.
If your child is at school from reception to year 11, you should have received a letter and consent form. If you haven’t or your child missed their vaccination at school they are still eligible.
