We love Pasco’s Italian in Cottingham and have had lots of great meals out there. Recently they have opened a second restaurant on St Andrews Quay in Hull and we were delighted to be invited in to do a Mumbler review. It certainly got our Mumbler seal of approval!
We went for a 5pm family tea on a Saturday night. The new location is great (it’s where Frankie & Bennies used to be) and very easy to get to. Being on the retail park, we managed to bribe our kids into going to B&Q first and behave with the promise of food afterwards, so we got some jobs done too. I can see us popping in for lunch or tea frequently between running errands on the retail park!
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Throughout the meal we found the service to be exceptional, staff were always passing and on-hand to get extra drinks and take our orders. It was very busy while we were in, pretty much every table was full, but there were plenty of staff and we didn’t wait long for our food.
It is very family friendly and they were great with the children. Our table was already laid with a kids activity sheet and multi-coloured pens which they were delighted about; it kept them very well entertained while I spent ages deliberating what to have! There is a large choice on the main menu but also a specials menu which is updated regularly. We decided to get one starter from the main menu and one from the specials to share between us all. For mains my son got a pasta dish and my daughter a pizza from the main menu, and me and my husband tried dishes from the specials – he had a steak and I had the chicken stroganoff.
It all looked and tasted fantastic! It was one of the best meals we’ve had out as a family and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed what we had. The portions were a good size too, ideal for me and my husband. They do half portions of the meals for younger children but my almost 11 year old son went for an adult size (luckily dad was on hand to finish off what he couldn’t manage). My daughters pizza was delicious, one of the best I’ve tried, she couldn’t eat it all so the waiter popped it in a box to take home and we finished it later that evening.
We decided that we just had enough room to share a few desserts and again these were fantastic, huge portions and very tasty!
Price-wise I thought it was very reasonable, it’s an affordable range so we will pop in often, it’s not just for a special occasion. I’m going to meet some colleagues for a ‘working’ breakfast there next week and try their breakfast menu. The lunchtime menu looked great too, another mum told me she had taken her daughter and a few friends to Odeon to watch a film for her birthday and then here for lunchtime pizzas. My son has already requested a return visit next month for his birthday so that’s our birthday plan sorted!
I would definitely recommend trying the new Pasco’s, it is certainly as good as the existing Cottingham one and up there with the best Italian restaurants we’ve been to. It’s very family friendly and an ideal place to eat out with children.
Look out next month for Santa appearances too! Keep an eye on the Mumbler Places to see Santa section for details.
