For the public skate sessions you just turn up at the start of the session time, pay, then go through to through to collect some hire skates. As we were at a birthday party the parent organising had booked us in advance as a group.
The skate hire was excellent; skates were new, stylish and comfy! We tried a couple of sizes to get the right ones. I put on a pair of skates too and helped the beginners at the party. I spent a lot of my teenage life in the 90s hanging out at Sheffield ice arena so this was an unexpected treat! I did have a few spectacular wipeouts whilst trying to get them round and I was rather sore afterwards, but I did have a blast. Zooming around with my daughter was such a lovely experience.
The session was 90 minutes on the ice (we did the Saturday morning 10.30am-12noon) but you could come on and off as much as you liked. There was lots of seating around the edge too. By the end of the session all the kids had managed to get around unaided and lots were asking to come again. I will definitely be taking my daughter again, it was a really fun, different weekend activity.
As a bonus, as we were leaving the Hull Seahawk’s ice hockey team were going on to warm up to play Sheffield! We’ll be back to watch a game.
