My daughter has been going to Footytots classes for a while and really enjoys them. She’s just started a new class with them at their new venue Hull Indoor Sports Centre (Little Monkeys) on National Avenue, Hull, so I thought it was about time I wrote a review about the classes and why we both love going…..
What is Footytots? This is what owner Sarah says about the classes:
Footytots is a provider of football-related physical development activities for young children aged from walking and five years. Children attend regular sessions with other children of a similar age, where they master both motor and social skills under the watchful eye of highly qualified coaches. A unique feature of Footytots is the active participation of parents in the sessions.
What we do: Footytots creates an optimum environment for children to develop their physical fitness and mental agility. The programme hones a child’s motor skills through activities using a ball, while enhancing their self-esteem and confidence. Footytots also helps children learn numbers, the alphabet, colours and body parts, and reinforces positive aspects of their personality. The result is a healthier child whose motor skills and fitness are boosted. Perseverance, concentration, memory and general cognitive abilities are also enhanced.
Our Mission: Footytots’ mission is to engage more and more children in physical activity, using football as a medium. We teach basic movement patterns, balance and motor coordination. Most important, we ensure that physical activity is fun. Everything we do is centred around helping children develop first as people, then as sports enthusiasts.
Mumbler Reviews Footy Tots
We started Footytots when my daughter was 2 and it’s really helped her develop both football skills and general coordination, balance and strength. The classes are really good fun, with lots of great warm ups, races, obstacle courses etc mixed in around learning skills. Parents need to get involved to help with some of the skills and I really like that, you’re not just sat watching your child but helping them and working with them, I feel it’s really good quality time we spend together.
She’s now 4 and started the new session at Hull Indoor Sports Centre last week. The new venue is fantastic, its a big space for them to run around in (and kick the balls everywhere!) and the added bonus of this venue is that they can go into the Little Monkeys soft play area for just £1 after the class. She can therefore play with the other children in the class, make some little friends and I can have a coffee and chat to other mums and dads. All of Sarah’s venues are indoor so you don’t need to worry about being outside on a cold wet winters day!
The sessions start with everyone saying hello and a fun warm up. Sarah then shows us all a skill that the children practice, here she is doing kicks against the wall using different parts of her feet. Then some weeks they do a mini game, or an obstacle course, and always the chance to score some goals. Sarah then gives out a trainer of the week award which really encourages the children to try their hardest in the session (and teaches them that they can’t win all the time, a concept my daughter struggles with!).
Sarah is an excellent coach, great with the children and they all love her (there is a fight fro who sits next to her in the circle at the end). Here she is running a session at my Mumbler fun day last month and my daughter followed her around everywhere.
The first Footytots session is FREE! Then if you enjoy it and want to come again the payment is made the week after your first free session, paid by the term (e.g. a 5 week term would be £25). You can also purchase a Footy Tots kit for £10.
