This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday 16th June 2024. Here are a few ideas for things to do to celebrate –
Its the Sledmere Deer Safari! Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June, 10am-4.30pm. A special opportunity for the whole family to see their beautiful herd of red deer who are bred on the estate, up close in their natural habitat. The Deer Safari is a fantastic event for all the family! Jump on our tractors and trailers for an awe-inspiring visit – get up close to our majestic does and be the first to meet their beautiful, new calves. Book in advance to guarantee entry. - Sewerby Hall & Gardens in Bridlington have extra activities running across the weekend, included in the admission price.
- 15th June – Rusticus Adventure Fairy Tales, Zoo activity Meet the Hoof Stock
- 16th June – Wildcats Down on the Farm, Zoo activity orange fat balls. Vintage afternoon teas available in the orangery (pre-book).
- Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition – is on display now until 14th July
- Castle Howard have a Fathers Day Classic Car and Motor Show, 16th June 10am-4pm, event included in admission ticket.
- Not on Father’s Day but the day before and a great dads event for the weekend, its the Humber Bridge Soapbox Derby on 15th June 2024 at 10am. An annual race for amateur teams in soapbox carts – also known in the Hull area as “bogeys” – which race from the Humber Bridge toll booth plaza down into the car park to be met spectators. Free for families to enjoy, stalls and rides too.
- Running from now until the 16th June is the West Hull Villages Scarecrow Hunt. So grab a map from their facebook page, or just head off for a walk around Anlaby, Willerby, Kirkella and see what you spot! We will be doing this with our dad, combined with a cafe or pub stop too!
- As part of the Scarecrow Hunt, a Craft fair at Anlaby Park Community Library on the 15th June 2024 10am-2pm – face painting, stalls, children’s activities, bouncy castles, refreshments.
There are more events on the following weekend if you want to extend the celebrations –
- Celebrating Dads Event – A free event from Homestart Hull to promote services that dads can access with or for their children at every stage of development through the first days, into early years, childhood and up into teens. Saturday 22nd June, 10am-3pm at Hull City Hall, Mortimer Suite. Free tea, coffee and drinks for children available. Children’s entertainment, face painting, giant games.
- Hull Vineyard Church family fun day – Sunday 23rd June, 10am-2pm at Hull Vineyard, Vulcan St, Hull HU6 7PS. Free entry, lots of fun for the family.
- The Big Malarkey – the annual family festival celebrating children’s books from Hull Libraries. East Park Hull on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June. There’s loads to see any do, all aimed ages 0-16 years – meet authors, artists, musicians in the big top, in other tents you can play with write poetry, stories, or make music, try some craft, drawing, digital wizardry and much more. Tickets in advance are £1 cheaper, but you can buy on the door. Full details and ticket link are here.
Family Day Out – there are LOADS of great family days out in our area, from attractions and farm parks to stately homes and museums. Have a look through the Days Out section here for ideas, it’s split into different types of days out.
Family Walk or Bike Ride: We have lots of great places to go locally for a walk or cycle – we have the river, the coast, the countryside, and in Hull city centre around the marina always makes a nice walk (with a stop for a beverage on Humber Street!).
