It is billed as Hull’s alternative panto and, oh yes it was! The venue is great; it’s at Social on Humber Street, and is very relaxed. There’s a bar (bonus!) and you could get hot food and snacks, we had some chilli nachos in the interval which were very good.
It’s hard to describe the show as its like nothing else. It is very funny and very local – a lot of the jokes are about Hull and the journey to Treasure Island takes place by voyaging across the Humber.
It’s an incredibly well-written script. The acting is exceptional and the singing really blew me away too, some of the songs I thought were better sung than the originals. Being born in the early 80s, I especially enjoyed the man from 1999 (I will not spoil it any more if you’re going!). And we loved Pattie Breadcake!
This is a panto that grown ups will probably enjoy more than kids, it certainly is the show I want to go to every year now. My daughter did enjoy it too though, she loved the singing especially the really recent songs that were recreated with a pirate twist.
We made the most of the location and went to check if my daughter was on the Fruit Market Hull nice list before the show and had a walk around the marina to look at the lights afterwards.
If you don’t have tickets I would highly recommend a visit, its very great value for money and there are just a few tickets left. Treasure Island is at Social on Humber Street from 20th to 29th December 2024. Recommended age 4+. Book tickets here.
