A new app has been set up to help single parents meet others for family playdates and to make friends. It was brought to my attention by a local single mum Katherine, read her story and all about the app here…..
Since becoming a single mother two years ago and moving to a new area, I have found being on my own at the weekends quite lonely. I have a great social circle but most of my friends are happily married and I don’t like to intrude on their family time. My daughter and I plan lots of days out together but often find she’s always seeking out other children in the play park now she’s at school age. Sometimes I look at families and feel if I like the only single mother around.
There’s also the weekends I don’t have my daughter, although I am quite organised with planning social events, I do have nights in when I’m watching strictly on the TV wishing I had a friend round to watch it with me!
When I came across the Frolo app, I was so excited. It was created by a single mother of one, Zoe Desmond, in London. The App is designed very similarly to a popular dating app; you can search for single parents in your area and there’s a news feed where advice and support can be given. When I opened the app I didn’t feel alone anymore, it’s a lovely single parent community.
The App has a meet up section and I have created a meet up in Beverley on Sunday 20th October from 1pm at Mega Fun (Jack in the Box, Annie Read Road, Beverley). I am hoping this could be a regular thing; it can be meet ups in local parks, theatre trips, Sunday dinners, picnics in the parks, seaside trips, city days out or anything you fancy. Some of the Frolo community went to Camp Bestival in the summer! I’d like to hope I can organise a northern version maybe go to the Deer shed Festival.
I am also hope to organise social child free nights out too. Frolo is both for single mothers and fathers, who have become single by choice or separation. It’s a lovely community to be part of.
Please go to the App Store and download the Frolo app. And I hope to meet some of you there too. Many thanks, Katherine
