With this year’s grading going back to pre-pandemic standards and an estimated 100,000 less A and A* grades being awarded, these results are particularly impressive as they are better than the sixth form’s 2019 outcomes.
Under the determined direction of Headteacher Luke Sloman, Woldgate School, part of the Wonder Learning Partnership, is continuing its upward trajectory. He says, “At Woldgate School, we pride ourselves on knowing and caring for each of our pupils and students as individuals and giving them the support they need on their individual journeys to success. This year’s great results are testament to both our students’ hard work and the care and dedication of my talented colleagues. I would also like to thank parents and carers for all the support they have given their children, and our school.”
Rosie Kennedy, who has been at Woldgate School since Year 7, achieved three A* grades in French, Maths and Chemistry, and is heading to Oxford University to study French and linguistics. She said, “I’m very happy, but still a bit in shock. I’ve enjoyed my time at Woldgate and all my teachers have been very supportive”.
Emily Hare achieved the A* and two A grades she needed in Biology, Maths and Chemistry to study medicine at Newcastle University, and spoke about the difficulties of sitting for A Levels in 2023 without having done GCSEs. She said,
“It’s been really hard because we didn’t have actual exam experience. But we had two sets of A Level mocks which helped. I’m so glad I stayed on at Woldgate for Sixth Form, as the teachers have been so very helpful and supportive. I was worried I wouldn’t get the results I needed but I’m honestly over the moon.”
Later this year, work will commence on a new state-of-the-art, net-zero school premises that will include an atrium, auditorium, library, cutting-edge laboratories, computer suites, classrooms, and sports facilities. Financed by the Department for Education’s National School Rebuilding Programme, the new school will not only greatly benefit the pupils, but also the local community, with the facilities being available to local residents and clubs outside school hours.
