Northern Lights Drama provide weekly acting and performance classes for children in our region. With school summer holidays fast approaching, they also run summer schools so we thought we’d best go along and check them out.
I took my 4 year old to a ‘Juniors’ class suitable for 3-6 year olds held at Hull Collegiate School in Anlaby. The class was an hour long, 4.30pm-5.30pm with a break half way through for a drink and a snack and was taught by two lovely, enthusiastic teachers Tilly and Hannah (pictured here leading the children on the stage). The children did some warm ups by speaking in different styles, moving around in different ways and doing some imagination games. They then went on to learn and practice songs from musicals and shows such as Annie and Aladin which they will be showcasing to the parents at the end of the month.
My little boy loved the songs and actions (I was singing ‘It’s a hard knock life’ all evening!) and getting up on the stage to practice and he’s asked to go back to the summer school.
Weekly classes are held at Hull Collegiate Tuesdays 4.30 – 5.30 (3-6 years) and 5.30 – 6.45 (7 years plus) and Thursdays (7-11 years) and at St Nicholas Community Hall Beverley on Saturdays (7 years plus).
