Back to Ours is back with a bang this May half term, bringing more diverse acts to the most surprising of venues, and transforming shopping centres, schools, community centres and clubs into backdrops for everything from live music and magic shows, to dizzying circus acts and film screenings.
The acclaimed festival is renown for bringing acclaimed national and international artists to Hull communities, and this half term is certainly no different.
Fresh from Sydney Opera House, Australia’s hottest new circus company Casus will be presenting their new show Driftwood at Hymers College. Described as ‘a spectacular display of choreography, acrobatics, trapeze and aerial stunts’, it’s an unmissable demonstration of strength and bravery from some phenomenal performers.
How It Ended will be performing The Little Gardener – an interactive show set in a greenhouse – at Freedom Centre and Hymers College. Suitable for ages 2+, this gorgeous piece of theatre tells the story of a little gardener and the garden that meant everything to him. He worked hard – VERY hard – but he was just too little to make a difference; or at least he felt he was…
Performance, puppetry, live music and song combine to create an intimate, magical production for all ages in Handa’s Surprise, performed at North Bransholme Community Centre, St. Aidan’s Church and The Avenues Centre.
Presented by Little Angel Theatre, follow Handa as she travels to see her best friend Akeyo, who lives in the next village. She’s taking seven delicious fruits as a gift, but seven different animals have seven VERY different ideas…will she have anything left to give at the end of the journey?
Back to Ours is also teaming up with Hull Independent Cinema to offer more brilliant Picture House events, screening Kubo and the Two Strings and Song of the Sea at Winifred Holtby Academy, The Octagon and Freedom Centre. The films are accompanied by animation workshops where you can make your own hero or sidekick, and the whole family are encouraged to come along and see what they can create!
The Back to Ours Festival runs Tuesday 29th May to Sunday 3rd June.
