The 2018 Tour de Yorkshire will see the race coming through the East Riding again! The race starts in Beverley on Thursday 3rd May and stage 1 is Beverley to Doncaster. You can see the race map on the Tour de Yokshire website here. Heading out of Beverley the race firstly goes up to Hornsea before doubling back to Beverley and heading down to Skidby. It then goes out to Pocklington and down to Goole. I’m going to watch from Skidby and go to the park and Windmill Cafe after!
There’s a list of child friendly cafes in the East Riding on Mumbler here, so why not watch the race then pop into one of our great local cafes for a drink and snack.
Stage 2 of the race on Friday 4th May then heads from Barnsely to Ilkley. Stage 3 of the race passes just north of Masham, through Bedale on Saturday 5th May. And, as the mens race has been extended to four stages this year, the 4th Stage will take place on Sunday 6th May with riders starting in Halifax and ending in Leeds after riding through the picturesque towns and villages of the Ripon & Nidderdale area.
As in past years there are bound to be lots of surprises and excitement along the way. The 2016 Tour de Yorkshire saw Sir Bradley Wiggins unexpectedly pull out of the race on Greenhow Hill coming out of Pateley Bridge, while the 2014 Tour De France: Grand Depart race saw Mark Cavendish crash just before reaching the finish line in Harrogate. One thing is certain though…Yorkshire will put on a good celebration! There was a huge turn out for the race last year, with local communities getting into the spirit of the day and putting on great events and fun activities.
